New tools for promotion of Romanian cultural heritage

Biertan (Birthälm) citadel and gothic churchVisitors and tourists can make use of two new instruments for appreciating the richness of Romanian cultural heritage. Thanks to the support of UNESCO Venice Office and Cooperazione Italiana, the Romanian NGO Mioritics Associations published a dedicated web-site for the promotion of cultural heritage in the villages with fortified churches in Transylvania region.
The web-site is available in English language at www.fortified-churches.com (versions in German and Romanian will be released soon).

Further to the publication of the website, on 25 April 2007 a newly established "Cultural Heritage Info Centre" will be inaugurated in Sibiu, this year’s European Capital of Culture.
The Centre’s main purpose will be to provide information about cultural sites and routes in the Sibiu region, and more in general over main features of Romanian cultural heritage, including UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Activities of the centre will also include the organisation of cultural events, the promotion of local tangible and intangible heritage, as well as the production and distribution of informative materials (brochures, maps, programme of events etc).
The Centre thus intends to become a much-needed point of reference for all visitors interested in Romanian cultural heritage, with an aim to support and facilitate cultural tourism in the region.

The public inauguration will take place in Plata Mica, Sibiu, at 12 am, at the presence of the Mayor of Sibiu and of the Head of Culture Section of UNESCO Venice Office.
