Bulgaria to host extraordinary session of International Working Group

The Ministry of Culture of Bulgaria, in cooperation with the Section for Culture of UNESCO Office in Venice and with the Bulgarian National Commission for UNESCO, will host an extraordinary session of the International Working Group (IWG) as the technical consultative and coordination body within the framework of the annual Ministerial Conference on Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe. The meeting will be held in Sofia, on 20 March 2009, according to the attached programme.

Participants in the meeting will be representative of ministries responsible for culture and cultural heritage of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, and Serbia, together with representatives of UNESCO.

The IWG session is mostly aimed at discussing about the organisation of the sixth Ministerial Conference on Cultural Heritage in SEE, to take place in Montenegro in November 2009. The meeting will also serve to enhance coordination concerning operational follow-up to the Ministerial Conferences, as well as to explore ways of enhancing sub-regional cooperation for the safeguarding and promotion of cultural heritage as a tool for dialogue and sustainable development.
