On-line book on "Traditional Arts and Crafts in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Traditional arts & crafts in Bosnia and Herzegovina Photographic book on the richness and diversity of Bosnian handicraft traditions, published with the support of UNESCO, is now available on-line in electronic version.

"Traditional Arts and Craft in Bosnia and Herzegovina" is the first photographic book ever dedicated to the richness and diversity of traditional Bosnian craftsmanship. First published in 2005 as part of the operational follow-up to the annual Ministerial conferences on Cultural Heritage in SEE, the book offers an overview of most peculiar, historical and valuable arts and crafts still present in the country, including over 170 colour photographs, explanatory texts on the historical background and characteristics of each single production, interviews to the craftsmen etc. The work is structured in 7 chapters dedicated to different productions (fabrics, leather, metal, wood, pottery, stone carving, religious art), plus a preface and an introduction.

The intent of the work is to present a particularly rich and distinctive branch of the country's cultural heritage, raising awareness of its value and specificity as well as of the dangers facing its transmission to future generations. Witnesseing the invaluable richness of Bosnian traditional craftsmanship, the book is also intended as an instrument for the promotion of BiH intangible heritage. Furthermore, highlighting as local arts and crafts are the wonderful fruit of a unique mix of cultural influences and sources of inspiration, the book also emphasize the importance of cultural diversity and its protection.
